Free swimming

Until 31st March 2010, residents of Hertsmere aged 60 and over and 16 and under will be able to swim for free.

The council has teamed up with Hertsmere Leisure to offer free swimming for these two age groups.  Those wishing to participate will need to complete an application form and provide proof of age and residency.  You will then be issued with a swim card which you will need to show each time you want to swim during the set times.  However, residents in the age groups who already have a leisure card will not need to apply for a separate swim card.

Swimming is a great form of exercise for young and old as it puts little stress on your body and works all the major muscles.  Swimming regularly can help young people improve their fitness and reduce health risks such as heart attack, stroke and dementia for older people.

The offer is available at The Venue in Borehamwood, Bushey Grove Leisure Centre and the Furzefield Centre in Potters Bar between the following times:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Friday - 7:30am to 9:30am and 4pm to 6pm
  • Saturday - 1pm to 4pm

Free swimming will not be available outside of these times.

You are strongly advised to call the individual leisure centre prior to your visit to ensure the pool is available for the free public use as special events and/or programmed activities (including fun swims) may restrict availability during some of the times listed.

The scheme will operate until 31st March 2010.

Download an application form or pick up one from a participating leisure centre.
