Hertsmere Youth Conference

Are you aged between 11-19 year old? Do you live in Hertsmere? Do you want the opportunity to have your say on influencing and shaping services to young people?

Young people to have their say

Hertsmere Borough Council’s 3rd Youth Conference

Date:        Friday 26 February 2010
Time:        9.30am to 3.00pm

Location: Hertsmere Borough Council, Borehamwood

Pupils from secondary schools across Hertsmere are being offered a fantastic opportunity to get involved in local democracy and decisions that affect their lives.

Invitations have been sent to schools inviting students in years nine to 13 to Hertsmere's third annual Youth Conference next February.

On the day, young people will find out how democracy works in different institutions, meet councillors and discuss local issues, give their own views on these issues and take part in a hypothetical planning exercise.

The event is organised by Hertsmere Borough Council and aims to help young people understand how to vote, what councils and councillors do and give them an opportunity to have their say and play an active role in matters that affect them such as provision of leisure activities in their local area.

To help make the day fun and exciting, The Foundation of Citizen Arts - an organisation which specialises in using theatre and arts to promote democratic engagement amongst young people - will be presenting the sessions throughout the day.

Fiona Paul, Youth Projects Officer at Hertsmere Borough Council, said:

"This event is free to attend. Schools can send a representative sample from their school or maybe their school council or student leaders.  It would be great to see every secondary school represented as we value the views and opinions of all our young people and it will help us to develop services in line with their wants and needs.
