Tree advice

Information on how to complain about high hedges.

The Planning Unit deal with all enquires regarding complaints on high hedges.

Advice forms are available from the Civic Offices. Complaint forms can be downloaded by following the link below.

Tree Preservation Orders

If you wish to carry out works to a preserved tree or woodland you must apply in writing to the Council using the standard trees application form which is also available online. Any application, which is not submitted on the standard form, or is incomplete, or fails to include any of the required documentation, will be invalid. These requirements apply to all TPO applications regardless of the date when the TPO was made. The LPA cannot validate or consider an application until all mandatory information is received.


An application under a TPO must:

  1. Be made to the LPA on the standard application form published by the Secretary of State
  2. Include the information required on the form
  3. Be accompanied by a plan which identifies the tree(s) on which work isproposed
  4. Clearly specify the work for which consent is sought
  5. State the reasons for making the application and
  6. Provide appropriate evidence describing the damage or defect where the work is proposed to address any structural damage to property or in relation to tree health or safety
  7. Any additional information that cannot be included on the form should be posted (by mail or electronically) or hand-delivered at the same time as the form.
