Planning - business
The Planning system plays an important role in modern society by helping to protect the environment in our towns and cities and in the countryside. Planning regulations have to cover many different situations and are quite detailed.
The general planning principles and the procedures for making a planning application are described in the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister (ODPM) booklet Planning Permission - A Guide to Business
. The Planning Portal
also offers a wide range of services and guidance on the planning system.
Onlineplanningoffices.co.uk/
provides planning application forms, links to your local Planning Offices and other useful information.
Parliament has given the main responsibility for planning to the Local Planning Authorities.

Running a business from home
Through the Local Plan, Hertsmere Borough Council support the principle of people working at home as it may reduce the need to travel and assist parents in looking after young children at home. However, in residential areas this must be achieved without having a negative impact upon others living in the area.
Planning permission may be required if you decide to run a business from your home. The general principles and procedures are described in Planning Permission - A Guide to Business
, published by the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister.
The Hertsmere Local Plan contains further business and employment policies. Policy B11 specifically refers to homeworking.
