  • Local Plan - Saved policies

    Under the terms of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004, the policies in the Local Plan were saved for a period of three years, ending on September 27th 2007.

  • Planning policies - environmental issues (agenda 21)

    The Council is committed to sustainable development through its Local Agenda 21 process in which the Council continuously improves its services, policies and practices to contribute to a better quality of life for everyone now, and for future generations.

  • Rural Development

    All of Hertsmere’s land outside of the main towns is in the Green Belt. Although there is a need to support the diversification of the rural economy, it is essential to ensure that the open nature, visual qualities and other important attributes of the Green Belt are maintained.

  • Supplementary Planning Guidance

    Supplementary Planning Guidance (SPG) does not form part of a Local Plan but it supplements specific policies in a Plan and may be taken into account as a material consideration in the determination of planning applications.

  • The Hertsmere Local Plan

    Hertsmere Borough Council, as the Local Planning Authority has a statutory duty to guide development within the Borough. The current Local Plan for the Borough is the Hertsmere Local Plan, which was adopted in May 2003 following public consultation and provides a framework for development until 2011.

  • Local Plan - waste

    Hertsmere is not the Waste Planning Authority. These are duties of Hertfordshire County Council. In its role as Waste Planning Authority, Hertfordshire County Council is required under the Town and Country Planning Act 1990 to prepare a 'Waste Local Plan'.

  • Local Plan - minerals

    Minerals are an essential part of our day-to-day to lives. The bricks in our homes, the pavements in our towns and the shops we visit all rely on minerals in their construction.
