Have you been involved in a ground-breaking piece of sustainable design work? Then you could be up for an award run by Hertfordshire Building Futures.
Building Futures is a partnership of eleven local authorities in Hertfordshire, including Hertsmere, and its purpose is to promote sustainable and high quality development in the county. It promotes a web-based guide which provides practical and user-friendly guidance for planning officers, developers and the general public on how to make development in Hertfordshire more sustainable and of a higher quality in design terms.
Cllr Charles Goldstein, portolio holder for planning, said: "The awards are an opportunity to get sustainable schemes into the limelight and a chance to gain recognition for innovation, creativity and quality in development. Winning an award will enable you and your company or organisation to gain the recognition you deserve as champions of sustainable design and construction in the county."
The awards recognise projects that demonstrate innovation, creativity and design quality, and which have made steps towards implementing the Building Futures guidance. There are three categories and each project can be entered into one or more category:
- Most Sustainable Construction
- Design Excellence
- Outstanding Commitment to Adapt to a Changing Climate
Entries are invited from local authorities, small and large scale developers, architects and individual homeowners, and will be assessed by a panel of judges. Nominations open on 5 September until 14 October, with an award ceremony on 22 November.
Schemes eligible include new build, conversions and retrofitting in the residential, commercial, retail, education, health and leisure sectors and must be completed between 16 September 2009 and 16 September 2011.
