Planning for the future

Do you have a view on the council’s planning process?
Hertsmere has three different committees relating to the geographical area in which the application refers. The committees are responsible for determining and monitoring planning applications and related enforcement matters under planning legislation.
Due to the volume of applications, a large number of applications are determined by the Head of Planning and Building Control, under delegated powers, within the framework which has been approved by the council. However, all major or significant applications are presented to the relevant committee for determination.
They are:
- Borehamwood and Elstree Planning Committee, which covers Borehamwood, Elstree and Well End.
- Bushey and Aldenham Planning Committee, which covers Bushey, Radlett, Aldenham, Letchmore Heath, Patchetts Green and Round Bush.
- Potters Bar and Shenley Planning Committee, which covers Potters Bar, Shenley, Ridge, and South Mimms.
The council’s Overview and Performance Committee has decided to review the committees system to see if it still meets the needs of the council and is appropriate.
Councillor Dr Harvey Cohen, chairman of the Overview and Performance Committee, said: "We are looking at our planning meetings to see if our processes meet the needs of the public.
“The majority of other districts in Hertfordshire have only one planning meeting so we are considering whether this approach would be appropriate for Hertsmere."
