The ten district Councils in Hertfordshire have published agreed guidance on the interpretation of the General Permitted Development Order.

Description

A-D PDF logo

The Enlargement, improvement or other alteration of a dwelling house and construction of porches. (Does not include a roof alteration, veranda, balcony or raised platform higher than 300mm, a microwave antenna or chimney, flue or soil and vent pipe and, in a Conservation Area or AONB, the cladding of any part of the exterior of the dwelling house)

   
B-C PDF logo Addition or Alteration of roof of dwelling house.
   
E PDF logo Any building, enclosure, swimming or other pool required for a purpose incidental to the enjoyment of the dwelling house or a container used for the storage of domestic heating oil or petroleum gas. (Does not include a veranda, balcony or raised platform higher than 300mm, or a microwave antenna)
   
F PDF logo The provision, replacement (in whole or part) of a hard surface within the cartilage of a dwellinghouse.
   
G PDF logo The installation, alteration or replacement of a chimney, flue or soil and vent pipe on a dwellinghouse.
   
H PDF logo The installation, alteration or replacement of a microwave antenna on a dwellinghouse or within its cartilage.

The Council will be using this guidance to inform its consideration of any questions or requests from householders and architects to clarify whether an extension or alteration is 'permitted development' and does not require planning permission.
