Brand new Minibus for Community Transport Project

News Item Details

Date
2.03pm, 12 June 2006

A brand new minibus, fully adapted for disabled users, was unveiled on Friday.

At the launch of the new minibus

Hertsmere Borough Council donated money to Hertsmere Community Voluntary Service (CVS) to help buy the bus for its Shopper Scheme, which provides local supermarket trips from Monday to Thursday and links up with a town centre Shopmobility service on Fridays.

The scheme is part of the CVS's Hertsmere Community Transport project, which provides accessible, affordable door-to-door transport for people with mobility problems.

In addition, CVS runs several voluntary-run schemes across the Borough:

A range of other schemes exist locally including Dial-a-Ride, a door-to-door transport service run by Hertfordshire County Council for elderly residents or people who have difficulty using public transport due to disability. The Borough-wide local transport service, for registered members, is an affordable scheme with prices comparable to local transport.

A range of other schemes, operated by local groups and voluntary organisations, provide an important service for the local community.

Full details of the main local community transport schemes are set out in the table below.
