A man who shouted abuse at a parking attendant has received an £80 fixed penalty notice from Hertfordshire Constabulary.
At about 3.30pm on Tuesday 27 June a parking attendant, working in The Walk area of Potters Bar, issued a ticket to a car parked in a resident's bay. A short while later she was approached by a man who started shouting obscenities and acting in a threatening manner towards her.
On Monday 17 July police issued a 46-year-old man from Potters Bar with a £80 fixed penalty notice.
Hilary Shade, Head of Asset Management, said: "We take matters of assault, whether physical or verbal, against our parking attendants extremely seriously. No-one has the right to shout and abuse someone simply doing their job. Parking attendants provide a vital service for the Council and we will be working closely with the police to tackle these incidents."
Sergeant Nat Landau, from Hertfordshire Constabulary, said: "We will not tolerate any manner of threatening or abusive behaviour of any kind but it's particularly unpleasant when it occurs against a person who is just trying to do their job.
"People should be aware that if they behave in this manner in a public place, then they can be issued with a fixed penalty notice that will hit them hard in the pocket or they could be taken to court and end up with a criminal conviction."
