Animal fouling and dead animals
Information on how to deal with animal waste and dead animals.
Animal fouling
The majority of dog walkers pick up after their pets but there are a few who don't and if you are one of them, you can be fined.
Dog fouling is unsightly and can be a potential health hazard if you come into contact with it as it could lead to blindness due to an infection called toxocara canis.
So if you take your dog for a walk, please remember to take something with you so you can ‘bag it and bin it’. And don’t think rain will wash the problem away, it won’t. A simple plastic bag will do the trick or pick up free poo bags from the council’s main offices in Borehamwood or our area offices in Bushey and Potters Bar – address and contact details.
Why not try putting some bags by your dog’s lead so you don’t forget to take them with you?
If you have any queries, please contact the council’s dog warden on 020 8207 7435 or email environmental.health@hertsmere.gov.uk
Alternatively you can report dog fouling using an online form.
