Hackney carriages and private hire vehicles are an important part of local transport provision. We have a responsibility to ensure that drivers, proprietors and operators of hackney carriage and private hire vehicles are fit and proper to hold such licenses and ensure that the public are safe when using them.

Our Existing Policy
The current Hertsmere Borough Council Hackney Carriage and Private Hire Licensing Policy 2017-22 came into effect on 1 May 2017 and contains information about the current requirements, government guidance, council policy, procedures and standards relevant to hackney carriage and private hire licensing.

New applicants, existing operators and drivers are strongly advised to familiarise themselves with this policy and ensure they remain compliant with this policy until such time as it is replaced.
