Addresses are an important part of our everyday lives but a lot of the time we don't give them a second thought. Like shopping online for example; we just expect our address to pop up in the address look up. But what if your address wasn't there, or it came up incorrect ? Who would you contact? Have you ever wondered who is responsible for creating the addresses you see online?
A lot of people think Royal Mail are responsible for addressing because of the 'Postcode Finder' lookup but it is actually your local authority. Royal Mail are only responsible for allocating postcodes and the 'Postcode Finder' is just a list of addresses which Royal Mail delivers to; they are not necessarily 'official' addresses.
The good news is you can now access the official address, UPRN and location of every property in England, Scotland and Wales via the new GeoPlace website 'FindMyAddress'. The data is created and maintained by local authorities, collected and managed centrally by GeoPlace and published by Ordnance Survey as AddressBase® so you can be certain that the information you are viewing is of the best quality.
Whether you are new to Hertsmere or you simply want to check your existing address, you can do so at FindMyAddress
If your address appears incorrect or doesnt appear at all - don't panic, there are various reasons why this might have happened. Please get in touch with us via the details on our contact page.
