How much is your council tax?
The below table of figures shows how your council tax bill is made up of various precepts (charges) which we charge for each dwelling in our borough on behalf of:
- Hertfordshire County Council,
- The Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire, and
- Hertsmere Borough Council including the precept for the parish council you live within (excluding residents of Bushey and Potters Bar).
The table of figures breaks the charge into the various precepts by Valuation Bands, and the final table shows the combined charge which is the amount you will pay before any exemption / discount / rebate is applied. Your council tax demand (bill) will show the exact amount you are required to pay.
For the various methods of paying your bill, please see How to pay your Council Tax - Hertsmere Borough Council.
There are two precepts for Hertfordshire County Council. One of the precepts is for Adult Social Care, and the other precept is for General Expenditure. The overall precept is up by 3.99 per cent compared to the previous financial year. For more information please see Hertfordshire CC - Council Tax.
The precept for Police and Crime Commissioner for Hertfordshire is up by £10 (for Band D) per household compared to the previous financial year. For more information please see PCC-Herts 2022-23. (PDF 2.08 MB)
Our share of your council tax bill is just 10 per cent and has an increase of £5 (for Band D) per household compared to the previous financial year.
The final precept is levied on behalf of parish or town councils (excluding residents of Bushey and Potters Bar) and the amount varies depending on the Parish.
