Any changes to our waste and recycling service in response to challenges faced during the coronavirus outbreak will be updated here.
Our aim during this difficult time is to maintain existing collections of refuse and recycling whilst reducing the significant risk to our collection staff who continue to work at the very forefront of the service.
Please respect our staff by adhering to social distancing rules. We will not tolerate any abusive behaviour towards our team. Thank you for your cooperation.

Extra waste and recycling
Unfortunately, the available resources do not provide us with the ability to increase collections or collect any additional side waste.
Please continue to use your brown bin to full capacity, wash and squash bottles/cans, cut up cardboard and if unable to fit all recycling in the bin please store it until the following collection or until such time that the Household Waste Recycling Centres re-open. As long as it is empty and clean (as it should be for a normal collection), recycling stored like this will not pose a problem.
Black bin waste should also be stored as cleanly as possible, i.e. wash out any non-recyclables, dirty foil, etc and use your green bin for food waste. We greatly appreciate your help until normal collections resume.
Whilst we appreciate the efforts of our residents with organised community litter picks this activity does not adhere to current government guidelines of essential travel, daily exercise or shopping for essentials. Please wait until lockdown is over to resume these activities.
How you can help us
Please help keep our collection staff safe and prevent the spread of infection by:
- Washing your hands before handling rubbish and recycling
- Keeping at least 2m from collection workers
- Disinfecting bin handles before and after collection
Home clear outs - what to do with items
We understand that many people are having clear outs at the moment but please don't be fooled by the 'man in a van' claiming to take your rubbish away for a good price. Always check the waste carrier register for the person/company you use. If they flytip your waste, you could be the one in trouble.
There is also no excuse for leaving excess waste around recycling banks, litter bins or outside charity shops. None of this waste will be recycled. Please hold onto your items until such time that shops/recycling centres reopen.
