Where can I put Christmas cards?
Please do not put Christmas cards in your blue box or brown bin. There will be collection points for Christmas cards at our local recycling points for a few weeks from 8 January at:

  • Civic Offices, Elstree Way, Borehamwood, WD6 1WA
  • Kemp Place car park, High Street, Bushey, WD23 1DW
  • Furzefield Centre car park, Mutton Lane, Potters Bar, EN6 3BW
  • Newberries car park, Watling Street, Radlett, WD7 7JH
  • Andrews Close, Shenley, WD7 9LP

Some stores and supermarkets may also recycle them throughout January.

What should I do with any extra bags of waste for my black bin or recycling for my green bin and blue box?
If you have any extra waste that doesn't fit in your black bin or recycling that won't fit in your green bin or blue box, you can take it to a Household Waste Recycling Centre otherwise known as the local 'tip'. We will not take any excess waste left next to these bins.

What about extra recycling for my brown bin?
For the week following Christmas (week commencing 25 December only), up to three large cardboard boxes can be folded down and placed next to your brown bin for collection. Any extra boxes or smaller cardboard items and other recyclables for the brown bin must be placed inside the bin - no bags will be taken. Alternatively they can be taken to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre, aka 'the tip'.

Can I put wrapping paper in my blue box?
No. Wrapping paper is not good enough quality to recycle plus a lot of wrapping paper has foil pieces or plastic in it which are difficult to separate. Please put wrapping paper in your black bin.

What can I do with my Christmas tree in the New Year?
You can replant your Christmas tree in the garden, chop it up and put it in your green bin or take it to your local Household Waste Recycling Centre.

What about other Christmas items, can they be recycled?
Check out our A-Z list of items popular around the home during the festive period. Many things can be reused, either as storage, decoration or by taking to a charity shop but if you do need to dispose of them then please use the correct bin.
