Environmental Health offers a number of in-house food and health & safety related courses for both members of the public and other regulatory officers.
Royal Society of Public Health Level 2 Award in Food Safety and Hygiene
The course is suitable for food handlers in a catering or retail environment.
The course objective is to provide knowledge and understanding of:
- The importance of food hygiene
- The importance of good hygiene practice e.g. time and temperature control, personal hygiene, cleaning and disinfection etc
- Food safety hazards and how to avoid or control them e.g. cross contamination, food poisoning
- Legal responsibilities including food safety management systems (i.e. documented procedures)
The course costs £58 and a certificate is awarded if you successfully pass the exam.
Due to Covid-19 we are now offering this course live via Zoom. The sessions are run by one of our Environmental Health Officers with the exam at the end of the second session via an online method.
Whilst the course can be done within your own Covid secure classroom setting with your colleagues, the exam needs to be sat under exam conditions. This means each attendee needs a laptop or desktop computer where they can access their emails to sit the exam.

Royal Society of Public Health Level 3 Award in Supervising Food Safety & Hygiene (Catering)
We are now offering this course online via Zoom.
This course is intended for those who are, or intend to be, supervisors of food handlers within the catering and hospitality industry.
This course is designed to equip supervisors and managers with the necessary knowledge and skills to ensure that their operation is conducted in a hygienic manner. It is also relevant to those who have to develop or monitor HACCP based food safety management systems.
Due to the content of this course candidates must be proficient with both the spoken and the written English language.
We are currently taking bookings for our July course:
Monday 12 to Tuesday 13 July
Monday 19 to Tuesday 20 July
This course will be run over four evenings (4pm to 8pm). You must attend each session in order to complete the course. The date and time of the exam will be discussed during the course
We are offering this course at an introductory price of £250 per attendee. This includes a delegate handout and a certificate is awarded if you successfully pass the exam.

Safer Food Better Business Workshop
The Food Standards Agency has developed a pack called 'Safer Food, Better Business' (SFBB) to help you comply with the law, which can be downloaded for free from the Food Standards Agency website.
The pack will save you having to produce your own system, is jargon free and easy to use. It covers cooking, cleaning, chilling, cross contamination and management procedures.
We are running workshops that provide advice and guidance on how to correctly complete the SFBB pack.
Due to Covid-19 these courses are currently on hold. Please email to express your interest in attending a workshop and we will advise if we will be offering an online workshop.
The cost of the course is £45 inc.VAT.
Delegates should bring their SFBB pack to the workshop or may request a new pack at a cost of £10 at the time of booking.

Throughout the year we offer a number of workshops which are aimed at regulatory officers and also people working within the specialist fields covering both Food and Health & Safety matters.
Due to COVID-19 we are now offering our training sessions for regulators via Microsoft Teams. Allowing you to keep up with your CPD whilst restrictions are in place. If you are a regulator and would be interested in receiving information about any up-coming sessions please get in touch.
On an ad hoc basis we also run additional workshops for those working within food businesses.
Previous workshops specifically for food businesses have included: E.Coli, Allergens, How to improve your Food Hygiene Rating, Home Caterers and Handling alleged food poisoning complaints.
