Community groups and voluntary organisations in Hertsmere have the chance to receive a grant of up to £300 if they are holding events as part of Older People’s Day and Silver Sunday.
The aim of the two national celebrations on Tuesday 1 October and Sunday 6 October is to recognise the achievements and contributions that older people make to society by offering a range of free activities and events.
Councillor Caroline Clapper, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Culture and Health, said: “Older people are often the unsung heroes in our communities so this is an opportunity to put their efforts in the spotlight and recognise their invaluable contribution.
“These grants will enable organisations to put on successful events which will hopefully attract a lot of interest from the over 65 age group and provide them with a lot of enjoyment. From tea dances to sporting activities or even a day trip somewhere, we look forward to receiving some great ideas for these grants.”
