Council staff show support to struggling families

Last Modified December 13, 2018

Staff at Hertsmere Borough Council donated hundreds of items of groceries to the borough's local Foodbanks to aid families struggling on the breadline this Christmas.

Colleagues based at the Civic Offices were encouraged to donate to Borehamwood, Bushey and Potters Bar Foodbank in time for their festive deliveries.

Senior officers pushed festive trolleys around the building to collect staff donations.

Items ranging from tinned food, pasta, breakfast cereals, biscuits, festive mince pies and chocolates to toiletries and household cleaning products, will be delivered by staff to the three Foodbanks across the borough.

Sajida Bijle, Corporate Director of Hertsmere Borough Council, said staff were keen to support Foodbank. She commented: “As a council we work hard to try to support people and work with other organisations to help families with financial issues within our community.

“I was so proud of the amount of food donated during the collections. Our staff donated a staggering amount of food and household items to Foodbank. They are a credit to the council. We hope the donations go some way to helping those people in real need this Christmas.”
