Statement following alleged assault

Last Modified June 07, 2018

The Chief Executive of Hertsmere Borough Council, Donald Graham, has issued the following statement in relation to an allegation of assault of one of our Civic Enforcement Officers in Hertsmere today (Thursday 7 June).

“We have worked hard to develop a parking enforcement scheme that is reasonable and fair to motorists in our borough. Our enforcement officers have the right to carry out their duties without facing this kind of intimidating and upsetting behaviour.

"Hertsmere Borough Council takes workplace abuse, whether in person, over the telephone or on email, extremely seriously and we always encourage staff to report any instance of abuse so that preventative measures can be taken, and the strongest penalties brought against offenders.

“No one should have to endure abuse or violence for simply carrying out their job and actively encourage our staff to report instances of physical and verbal aggression directed towards them. We have reported this incident to the police.”
