Local organisations in Hertsmere are encouraged to apply for funding to support projects that benefit the community, as part of the council’s Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme (WIIS).
Each of Hertsmere Borough Council’s 39 councillors have £750 to allocate to local organisations for worthwhile projects that work towards the council’s vison ‘Driving Better Futures’.
Councillor Christian Gray, Portfolio Holder for Communities, Neighbourhoods, Enforcement, Economic Development and Transformation, said: "Our Ward Improvement Initiative Scheme is all about helping small projects in local areas to benefit our communities.
"WIIS allows councillors to support their local community through a wide range of programmes and activities. We want to fund projects that deliver real benefits to our communities and that support the council’s vision. I’d encourage organisations to fund out more about the funding criteria and apply.”
The past financial year, April 1 2022 to 31 March 2023, saw 43 different applications made, which gave a total spend of £23,755 to groups and organisations that were actively supporting the community.
Among the top recipients were, Aldenham Parish Council to support their Coronation celebration event, Elstree and Borehamwood Community Charity for their Party in the Park Jubilee celebrations and Red Trust Bushey towards supporting the foodbank and community café.
Smaller pots of money were given to organisations such as the National Animal Welfare Trust for equipment for their new facility; Potters Bar Foodbank for providing emergency food to people in crisis and Unity Network to go towards the Annual Diversity Fund.
Cllr Gray added: “I'm so pleased that as councillors we've been able to support a range of community groups and charities across our borough through last year’s round of WIIS funding.
“Those we’ve funded in previous years really shows the wide range of programmes and activities that can benefit from this funding.”
