Park Kids launches in Borehamwood

Last Modified March 16, 2020

A free community running event for children, from toddlers to teens, is launching in Borehamwood this week - but volunteers are still needed to help get it in motion.

Organisers are looking for anyone who can help support the Park Kids event at Aberford Park in Borehamwood. The first run will take place from 9am on Saturday (14 March), with further events planned every Saturday throughout the year.  Running, marshalling and high-fiving will be among the tasks required by volunteers at the events, which aim to inspire youngsters to lead happier, healthier lives through physical activity.

Park Kids is organised by Kids Run Free, a national charity which promotes running for anyone aged 16 or under, in conjunction with us and leisure provider InspireAll. More volunteers are needed to help set up and run the events in Aberford Park, and launch other events in Meadow Park in Borehamwood and Oakmere Park in Potters Bar.

Councillor Caroline Clapper, Portfolio Holder for Leisure, Health and Culture, said: “It's great news that following our appeal for volunteers just under a month ago, the first Park Kids event is scheduled to happen in the borough this Saturday.

"Park Kids is a fantastic way of getting youngsters moving and a brilliant use of our parks and open spaces, but we need more people to help get it going and ensure its continued success.

“You don’t need to make a massive commitment – you can help as often or as little as you like, but your support will be greatly appreciated.

“Any child can get involved with Park Kids. It’s all about having fun, getting active and hopefully help to make physical activity, the habit of a lifetime.”

To take part participants must download the KRF Running App where they can record their child’s running, set personal running goals and receive rewards to celebrate achievements and keep them motivate

There is no set distance – children can run as little or as much as they like.
