Work starts on exciting new splash zone!

Last Modified May 10, 2022
Construction has started on a new splash zone in the heart of Borehamwood.

The splash zone in Meadow Park will include 23 in-ground jets from arching features to crawl under to large columns of water to run or jump through. There is also a Hula Spray, which forms a circular water jail, and a number of Hydro Blast’s including a fountain like spray in the centre which reaches 3.5m high – are you brave enough!

Cllr Seamus Quilty, Portfolio Holder for Environment, said: “I am delighted that work has started on the exciting new splash zone in Meadow Park, a key open space in the heart of Borehamwood. This addition, combined with the play spaces, creates a great place for families with children of all ages and abilities to get outside and have fun. Our aim is to establish a fun environment to encourage physical and social play.

“The splash zone has two distinct areas to allow different ages to play safely and have maximum fun! We are working hard to get this amazing facility open for the summer, but that is obviously dependent on a number of factors. We will keep you updated.”

In 2018, the council completed phase one of the parks improvements project. This included establishing an inclusive toddler play area and large landscaped activity area for older children; refurbishing the tennis, basketball and multi-use games court; creating a fitness zone; installing electronic interactive play equipment; creating new footpaths across the park to improve access and new entrance barriers to prevent unauthorised vehicle access and landscaping.

"The improvements to Meadow Park has something for everyone, from the children's splash zone through to the improved sports facilities and walking access,” adds Cllr Quilty.

"By improving the council's open spaces we show our commitment to supporting our residents to lead healthier lives. The last few years have shown more than ever the positive impact on health and wellbeing of our parks and open spaces. We are delighted to continue investing in them."
