Residents in Hertsmere can support local good causes and be in with a chance of winning a weekly £25,000 jackpot and an Echo Dot – it’s a win-win!
The Hertsmere Community Lottery allows players to choose the charity, voluntary group or community organisation they want to support when they purchase their tickets.
Tickets cost just £1 per week with 60p from every ticket sold going to groups that work to help our residents across Hertsmere. Supporters of the good causes that have registered for the lottery can buy their tickets from the official website: www.hertsmerecommunitylottery.co.uk
The first draw will taking place on Saturday 18 December.
Cllr Meenal Sachdev, Portfolio Holder for Community, Leisure, Culture and Health, said: “I’m so pleased that ticket sales for the lottery are now open! This is a great way for people to get involved in supporting local organisations. Residents can choose where they want their money to go, and they too can be winners.
"As well as donating to a local good cause, you could win up to £25,000 each week and everyone who buys a lottery ticket for the first draw could also be in with a chance to win one of three Echo Dots with Alexa. It’s so simple to be a part of, both for the player and the good cause or causes they choose to support – it’s a win-win!”
Hertsmere Borough Council started the community lottery as a fun and creative way for voluntary and community groups to raise much-needed funds.
For those who want to play, tickets cost £1 to buy and as well as supporting their favourite good cause, players could win a weekly jackpot of £25,000 if they match six numbers. Other prizes are £2,000, £250, £25 or three free tickets.
Even if players don’t wish to support a specific organisation, they can still take part and donate 60p of their ticket price to the good causes fund, which will be distributed by the council through the annual community grants scheme.
Cllr Sachdev, added: “Charities, sport clubs, PTAs and other community or voluntary organisations can register with the community lottery at any time. It’s a simple way for organisations and groups that work to support our residents to raise vital funds.
“Each organisation that signs up will receive a dedicated webpage on our Hertsmere Community Lottery site and be provided with a range of online and printable marketing materials to help encourage your supporters to play – giving just got more fun!”
