Trees are an important part of our landscape and environment; they take decades to mature but only minutes to remove or harm. Our trees can often be threatened, so there are powers in place to protect them using Tree Preservation Orders (TPOs).

In conservation areas, trees above a certain size automatically have a certain level of protection, as they contribute to the character of the area. Please see our Trees in conservation areas page for more information.

For information on trees in parks, on highways and in other public spaces please see the tree contacts page.

Our frequently asked questions may help you with common questions about Tree Preservation Orders.

A tree preservation order has been served on the Bushey Hall Golf Course on 15 January 2021.
