Vote by post
You can apply to have your ballot paper sent to you instead of voting at a polling station. You must be registered to vote before you apply. You can choose a postal vote for one election, a set period or up to three years.
Apply for a postal vote
You’ll need the address where you’re registered, your National Insurance number and an image of your handwritten signature. If you do not have a National Insurance number, you can provide other identity documents. If you cannot provide a signature, or yours does not always look the same, you may be able to request a signature waiver in the online application.
If you cannot apply online, GOV.UK has a paper application form. Contact Electoral Services if you need help or cannot print it.
Change or cancel your postal vote
Contact Electoral Services if you move, need your pack sent somewhere else, or want to stop voting by post. If you move, register at your new address and apply for a postal vote again. Changes close before polling day, so contact us as soon as you know you need one.
If your pack has not arrived, or is lost or damaged, contact Electoral Services. Losing a pack does not mean you can vote at the polling station instead; you’ll need a replacement.
