Award winning affordable homes completed in Borehamwood

Three new family homes providing affordable, accessible and energy efficient accommodation have been officially completed in Borehamwood, marking another milestone in Hertsmere Borough Council’s programme to deliver much needed housing for local residents.

The scheme provides three four-bedroom homes, two of which have been extensively adapted to meet the needs of residents with complex physical disabilities, with specialist features including lifts, hoists and accessible bathrooms, helping to address the growing need for accessible housing in the borough.

Designed with sustainability and inclusion at their heart, the homes offer modern, energy efficient accommodation that supports independent living while helping residents reduce their energy costs.

The quality of the development has also been recognised beyond the borough. Caishowe Road has been awarded Gold in the Best New Social Housing (Small Scale) category at the Hertfordshire Building Control Awards 2026. The awards celebrate excellence in construction, sustainability, accessibility and design across Hertfordshire and are judged by an independent panel of industry experts.

Councillor Alan Matthews, Portfolio Holder for Housing and Housing Development, said: “Providing high quality, genuinely affordable homes is a key priority for the council, and schemes like this demonstrate the positive impact smaller developments can have. The families who move into these homes will benefit from the high-quality construction, energy efficient design and accessible features.”

Councillor Jeremy Newmark, Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, added: “Every new home we deliver means one less family waiting for secure, affordable housing. Developments like this show how we can make a real difference to people’s lives while also raising the standard of the homes we build.”

The project was delivered through a partnership between Hertsmere Borough Council, construction partners Ermine and Pellings, and Hertsmere Living Limited.

The Caishowe Road development forms part of the council’s wider commitment to increasing the supply of affordable and accessible homes across Hertsmere.
