Building on the success of last year’s Generation Hertsmere, the council teamed up once again with the Hertfordshire Careers Hub (Hertfordshire Futures) to host another inspiring event in November. The day shone a spotlight on the many exciting career opportunities available in Hertsmere — both now and in the near future — giving young people the chance to connect directly with local employers.
The event was officially opened by the Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Alpha Bird Collins, the Leader of the Council, Cllr Jeremy Newmark, and Gareth Dace, Head of Programmes and Policy at Hertfordshire Futures, who all praised the event’s role in helping young residents to take their first steps toward rewarding careers.
Cllr Jeremy Newmark, Leader of the council said:
“This is a fantastic chance for our young people to chat directly with such a wide range of potential employers –from the film and creative arts, and technology sectors to teaching, the police and the armed forces.
Thank you to all of the exhibitors and sponsors who made this event such a success - it reflects our strong commitment to growth, innovation, skills and high-quality jobs across the borough.”
Gareth Dace, Head of Programmes and Policy at Hertfordshire Futures said:
“We are delighted to be able to work so closely with the team at Hertsmere to deliver such a fantastic, vibrant Generation event. Providing a meeting point for young people seeking careers inspiration and local employers looking to reach out to their future workforce plays an integral aspect of our annual Careers Hub delivery plan.
We are now delivering nine Generation events across the county each academic year. This is the fourth Generation Hertsmere event and it continues to grow in terms of the number of exhibitors attending but also provides many best practice examples in terms of organisation, reach and impact.
Our feedback clearly indicates that schools and young people really value this opportunity and that it really does make a positive difference in helping them start to map out their future.”
Set up as a lively careers fair, the event brought together a fantastic mix of employers – 66 in all - ready to share their experiences and discuss the variety of roles on offer. It gave more than 500 students the chance to have real conversations with local professionals, discover new industries, and explore the many exciting opportunities right on their doorstep.
