Hertsmere Borough Council has marked the topping-out of its Catterick Way development in Borehamwood, celebrating an important milestone in the delivery of nine new social rented homes.
The development is particularly significant as it is a fully council-delivered social housing scheme demonstrating ongoing investment in high-quality genuinely affordable homes for local residents.
Catterick Way will provide nine social rented homes, three of which have been adapted to meet the needs of residents with physical disabilities, with specialist features including fully accessible bathrooms.
The homes will help local families, in housing need, access secure social housing. The accessible properties will support residents with complex physical disabilities, helping them to live independently and remain part of their community for longer. It’ll also provide temporary accommodation for households who are homeless.
The scheme is transforming an underused former garage site into a high-quality residential development. It supports wider local and national ambitions to increase the supply of social housing and meet the growing need for accessible housing.

“Catterick Way is about much more than simply building new homes. It is about providing high-quality social housing that meets the needs of local people and gives families in housing need, the security of a place they can call home.
“The inclusion of adaptable homes is particularly important, helping ensure that residents with a range of needs can continue to live independently.
“Reaching the topping-out stage is a significant achievement, and I’d like to thank everyone involved in bringing the scheme forward, including our contractors, consultants, project partners and council officers.”

“Catterick Way is a significant milestone for Hertsmere. By investing directly in new homes and working with partners including Homes England, we are creating more opportunities for local people to remain in the communities where they live, work and have established support networks. It will reduce the number of families placed in temporary accommodation outside of Hertsmere.
“We are committed to increasing the supply of high-quality social housing across Hertsmere, and Catterick Way is an important example of that commitment being put into action. We built this with developer contributions. We retain the nomination rights in perpetuity. This is a textbook example of how a council like ours should deliver social housing.”
The council looks forward to seeing the development completed and welcoming residents into their new homes in the months ahead.
