Marking International Women's Day at Civic Offices

Hertsmere Borough Council hosted an event on Wednesday, 4 March ahead of International Women’s Day, bringing together two panels of inspiring women from across the borough to share their stories and experiences with members of the audience, both at the event and online.

Guest speakers included Hertsmere’s Chief Executive Sajida Bilje, Rosalind Bluestone MBE from Goods for Good, Amanda Hershman from Twenty-Two Business Support and Development, Sgt Jo Skingley from Hertfordshire Constabulary, and Lynne Misner from Small Acts of Kindness.

The event was hosted by the Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Alpha Bird Collins and Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Mia Handley, with Cllr Handley leading the discussion about the panel’s personal journeys, challenges and achievements.

Each speaker was presented with a certificate recognising their personal contributions and thanking them for their work as an ‘Inspiring Woman’ in Hertsmere.

Chief Executive of Hertsmere, Sajida Bilje said:

“It was inspiring to hear the success stories that were shared, they motivate everyone – these women are hardworking, competent and capable and that is why they have been successful.

“The event showcased their achievements and what we can all learn from them.”

Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, Cllr Mia Handley:

“It was fantastic for me to be a part of this International Women's Day event - interviewing such a panel of Inspiring Hertsmere Women, learning about their experiences, challenges and successes in their fields. In this way, we came together to celebrate the strength, courage, and achievements of women everywhere."

The Mayor, Cllr Alpha Bird Collins said:

“Thank you to everyone who joined us to celebrate the 115th International Women’s Day. I hope you learn from our panel's experiences and take inspiration from them.”
