The Government’s consultation on Hertfordshire’s Local Government Reorganisation proposals has now closed.
In November 2025, Hertfordshire’s 11 councils, along with the Hertfordshire Police and Crime Commissioner, jointly submitted three unitary model proposals for the Government to consider.
A statutory consultation ran for seven weeks from 5 February – 26 March 2026 providing the opportunity for residents, stakeholders and consultees to share their views on the proposals and the future of Local Government in Hertfordshire. A decision is expected from the Government in summer 2026.
The 11 councils continue to work collaboratively to prepare for a smooth transition into the new authorities in April 2028 and are committed to implementing whichever model the Government decides.
