In the last four years, the Beryl bikes scheme in Hertsmere has delivered numerous benefits to residents and the environment.
The cycle hire scheme recorded nearly 60,000 journeys, covering 115,000 km. Its 5,700 users benefited from increased physical activity, while the wider community benefited from improved air quality, reduced traffic congestion and a reduction of more than 4.6 tonnes of emissions.
In Bushey, where the scheme has been popular and provides connectivity to Watford, the service will be available until 2028. However, a decision was made to discontinue the Borehamwood service, so it will cease on Thursday 22 October.
We understand this news will be disappointing for people in Borehamwood who have enjoyed using Beryl bikes. However, we are still committed to a public cycle hire scheme in our borough. We are actively negotiating with other suppliers to bring forward a wider and better provision in Borehamwood and extending it into other areas as well.
