Council proposes £36,000 financial package to bring Three Ways Social Club back to life

Hertsmere Borough Council is proposing to provide a financial safety net to help bring a much-loved community social club in Borehamwood back into use.

The proposal from Council Leader Jeremy Newmark, which will be considered by the council's Cabinet on Wednesday 11 November, would see the council underwrite up to £3,000 per month of rental and utilities cost of a new community led social club at Three Ways Community Centre in Arundel Drive.

The plans follow talks with local residents who are keen to restore the former social club and create a welcoming, sustainable space where people can meet, socialise and take part in a wider range of activities.

The former social club closed in July 2026, leaving approximately half of the community centre building unused.

That group of local residents has since established The Manor Social Club Community Interest Company (CIC), with ambitions to create a thriving community hub offering activities for people of all ages, including older residents, families and those experiencing social isolation.

The support would be provided to enable a 12 month pilot, enabling the club to establish its membership, activities and income. The funds would underwrite the costs of rent and service charges during that period.

Councillor Jeremy Newmark, Leader of Hertsmere Borough Council, said:

“We know how much Three Ways Social Club means to local residents, and we’ve listened to those who want to see it brought back to life. It’s encouraging to see local people coming together with such determination and a positive vision for its future.

“By providing financial support during its first year, we hope to give this community-led initiative the best possible start, helping to create a sustainable, welcoming space that brings people together and strengthens our community.

“I am proud to be tabling this proposal to the Council to step up and save this historic community provision to be enjoyed by whole new generations.”
