Community organisations and voluntary groups across Hertsmere can apply for grants of up to £500 to help deliver local events and activities during Hertsmere’s Year of Culture 2027.
The funding will support projects, events, and activities that celebrate creativity and bring people together, reflecting Hertsmere’s diverse cultural life.
Grants can be used as a one-off contribution towards revenue or capital costs - including equipment - or for specific projects, individual events, or a programme of activities showcasing this special year.
Councillor Chris Myers, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks, Leisure and Culture at Hertsmere Borough Council said:
“Hertsmere’s Year of Culture 2027 will be a chance to showcase the creativity, talent and community spirit that make the borough such a vibrant place. These grants will help local groups bring forward ideas that celebrate culture in all its forms and encourage residents to get involved throughout the year.”
Funding rounds
There will be four funding rounds, with each round linked to three themed months during 2027:
Round 1: January (Books and Reading), February (Charity and Gratitude) and March (Dance)
Round 2: April (Health and Wellbeing), May (Nature and the Outdoors) and June (Music)
Round 3: July (Fashion), August (Film and TV) and September (History and Heritage)
Round 4: October (Culture and Diversity), November (Theatre) and December (Food)
Who can apply?
Applicants will need to show that their event:
- Celebrates or is connected to the Hertsmere’s Year of Culture 2027
- Aligns with one of the Year of Culture’s monthly themes
- Occurs during the Year of Culture (January to December 2027) and is held within the borough
- Will take place during, or as close as possible to, a themed month.
Round 1 will open on Monday 19 October and it will close at 11.59pm on Sunday 22 November 2026. The process is simple to complete.
