You can now have your say on how we engage with the community on planning matters.
A public consultation has launched today (Monday 16 June), and will run for six weeks, enabling people to give their views as we update our Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) to reflect best practice and changes in legislation and the planning process.
The SCI sets out the way in which we consult with residents, businesses and community groups on planning matters, including the preparation of planning policy documents, such as the Local Plan, and the consideration of major planning applications.
We are updating our SCI, which is required every five years, to reflect new digital tools and engagement methods, improve accessibility and inclusivity, and strengthen support on neighbourhood planning and cross-borough co-operation.
Cllr Nik Oakley, the council’s Portfolio Holder for Planning, Infrastructure and Transport, said: “We are keen that as many people as possible have their say as part of this consultation, as the Statement of Community involvement is vital in making sure that our communities have a meaningful voice in local planning decisions.
“The feedback provided on our draft SCI will help to ensure our approach on all planning matters is clear, effective and reflects the needs of our borough. Your views are very important, whether you are a resident, business owner, developer or represent a community group. We are committed to making the planning process more transparent, inclusive and accessible.”
To take part in the consultation, which runs until 5pm on Monday 28 July, please go to our online consultation platform, where you will also find the draft Statement of Community Involvement.
