We are investing in a well-known community building in Borehamwood – you can help to decide its future so it can best serve our residents for years to come.
The council-owned Aycliffe Pavilion (above), off Aycliffe Road, has fallen out of use. All options are on the table to ensure that the best solution at the venue for local people is achieved.
That is why we would like to hear your views, with a public consultation open from today (Wednesday 21 May) for six weeks – it should only take a few minutes to complete the short survey. Your answers and comments will be vital as the site’s future is considered before a scheme is proposed and developed.
Aycliffe Pavilion has not been regularly used as changing facilities for football on the adjacent sports pitches, or for other uses, for around five years although the building continues to be utilised for storage for sports equipment. These playing fields are unaffected by the proposed redevelopment, with only the existing building and car park the subject of the consultation over future plans.
Cllr Jeremy Newmark, Leader of the Council and Cabinet Member for Consultation, Communications and Asset Management, said: “I’m thrilled to be launching this exciting project to redevelop the site of Aycliffe Pavilion.
“This initiative has the potential to accommodate a wonderful multi-use facility for the community. It will address the serious lack of community facilities in this part of Borehamwood; deliver the potential to retain the much-loved local dance school that does so much for the community; and represents another stage in our programme of major investment in Hertsmere’s parks.
“We are very keen to hear from as many people as possible about exactly what they would like to see. The options range from the construction of a new building, following the full demolition of the existing building, to a renovation of the existing structure. We are right at the start of the process and, as such, it is important that local people have their say and are part of the conversation.”
