Hertsmere agrees allocation of Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL) Funding

In November, February and March, the Community Infrastructure Levy Investment Panel (CILIP) met to discuss projects that had been submitted for CIL funding. The panel recommended projects over the value of £100,000 which required a decision by full council.

Last night at a meeting of full council, Hertsmere Borough Council agreed to all CIL funding projects, detailed below:

Council agrees funding of for up to £629,138 for the renovation for Hertsmere Mencap, located at 49c Theobald Street. Hertsmere Mencap is a local charity supporting people with a learning disability across the borough. The aim of this project is to provide a new, fully accessible, multi-use community hub. The project aims to provide Mencap with a permanent and fully accessible base with which they can cater for their members.

Council agrees funding for the Hertsmere Learning Partnership of up to £1,640,000. The Hertsmere Learning Partnership is a collaboration of Hertsmere schools, committed to broadening the educational and wider life experiences of the children and young people of the area. The Learning Partnership aims to operate four double-decker buses, converted into mobile learning hubs. Each two levels, with the ground floor having specialist facilities for practical work, while upstairs will provide classrooms or workshop spaces. The buses can travel independently.

Council agrees funding of up to £1,980,000 for Aberford Park Improvements. The aims of the project are to increase public amenity in the park, increase residents’ satisfaction and deliver better outcomes for wildlife. Development of a wide range of children’s play equipment, including many accessible options will also be funded. Aberford Park last saw a significant investment in infrastructure approximately 20 years ago.

Council agrees funding of up to £1.65m for Boreham Wood Football Club ground development. The aim is to redevelop the south-end stand of the football ground to increase spectator capacity and upgrade the club’s ancillary facilities, inclusive of the construction of a new changing‑room hub at the Meadow Park gate. The current ground has a capacity of 4,061, the planned amount will increase to 5,863, exceeding the 5,000 capacity that clubs are required to have by the end of their first Football League season. Boreham Wood Football Club can maintain their partnership with Arsenal Women’s Football Club, as well as bringing social and economic benefits to the area.
