The antisemitic terror attack in Golders Green, and the recent spate similar attacks are utterly appalling. Our thoughts are with the victims, and their families. We recognise that words alone are not sufficient. These attacks have a much wider and deeper impact upon our Jewish communities. The attacks highlight the very real and present risk to our Jewish community.
We met with the Chief Inspector for Hertsmere Police and are working closely with him and his colleagues at Hertfordshire Constabulary. They are being supported by our own community enforcement officers, with increased patrols and visibility in key areas, to provide reassurance and keep people safe. We have asked central government to ensure that our area benefits directly from the £25m extra police funding announced by the Prime Minister after the Golders Green attack.
We also remain in close contact with our valued partners at the Community Security Trust.
Following last year's jihadi terror attack at Heaton Park Synagogue we made an immediate emergency fund of £50,0000 available to local synagogues for additional front line security measures. We will be considering further initiatives in consultation with community leaders.
Senior councillors and council community enforcement officers will be visiting local synagogues this weekend.
If you have any concerns, contact the police. In the case of emergency always dial 999.
