Improvements to Newberries Car Park in Radlett

Hertsmere Borough Council has agreed plans to invest in improvements to Newberries Car Park in Radlett for the benefit of local people, businesses and visitors.

At the Cabinet meeting on Thursday, 16 October, Cabinet Members backed the Leader’s recommendation that Hertsmere retain the site, and take measures to upgrade the condition of the car park.

The Cabinet’s decision follows an open and transparent market procurement exercise, and consideration of all available options. Members agreed that the car park is critical infrastructure for Radlett and should be improved rather than sold or redeveloped.

Councillor Jeremy Newmark, Leader of the Council, said: “We were compelled to review the future of the site due to money spent on disposal plans by the previous administration. We listened carefully to our residents and business owners. Their feedback, especially through a community meeting organised by Cllr Clapper, played a vital role in making the decision for the council to retain and enhance this important local site."

The plans include resurfacing, upgraded lighting, electric charging points and improved accessibility.

The council will now move to the next stage developing designs and a delivery timetable.
