The first phase of a programme of improvements to Bushey’s flagship park, King George Recreation Ground, has been completed with the reopening of the splash park.

As part of the improvement works the splash park’s pump house has been replaced, with the flooring and equipment completely refurbished.

Children and families were able to create a splash at the weekend, when the facility reopened on Saturday 31 May.

Cllr Chris Myers, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks, Leisure and Culture, commented: “King George Recreation Ground is an absolutely fantastic park which has long held a Green Flag award, is much loved by our local communities in Bushey and is actively supported by a wonderful Friends group.

“I am delighted we have been able to open the splash park in time for summer for our younger visitors to enjoy. Our recent survey identified this facility was key to improvements and we’ve worked hard to ensure this facility is improved to reduce closures, which have presented us with challenges in the past.

“Improvements to the wider park continue, such as rebuilding the café close to the existing building, expanding the ball court area for more sports, upgrading the play equipment, installing new outdoor fitness equipment and resurfacing key paths.

“Thank you to everyone who gave their feedback during earlier consultation and the committed Friends of King George for their continued support.”

Cllr Chris Shenton, Portfolio Holder for Finance and Budget, added: “We’re investing a million pounds in the park improvements at King George Recreation Ground, which has come from developer contributions, known as Community Infrastructure Levy (CIL).

“And that’s just the start. We’re investing similar funds at parks across our borough, with Aberford Park in Borehamwood and Oakmere Park in Potters Bar scheduled for major improvements. These kinds of projects are exactly what CIL funding was designed to support. I hope that our local communities continue to get involved and help us shape these improvements."
