The borough’s mayoral chains have been passed on to Hertsmere Borough Councillor Parveen Rani.
Cllr Rani has taken over the role as Mayor of Hertsmere following her inauguration at the council’s annual meeting on Wednesday 20 May. The new Mayor will be supported by incoming Deputy Mayor, Cllr Morris Bright.
Having been elected to Hertsmere Borough Council in May 2023, Cllr Rani has since served as Cabinet Member for Streetscene, Parks, Leisure and Culture, Deputy Mayor of Hertsmere, and Global Envoy for Film and Television.
Cllr Rani is passionate about community service, education, culture and bringing people together across all backgrounds and generations. Over many years, Cllr Rani has supported initiatives that promote inclusion, heritage, youth engagement and community cohesion across the borough. Her chosen charities are Hatzola and Akshaya Patra UK.
Cllr Parveen Rani said: “It is a great honour to serve the residents of Hertsmere as Mayor.
“I am looking forward to supporting communities and organisations across the borough over the coming year, meeting residents from all walks of life and celebrating the incredible diversity, culture and community spirit that makes Hertsmere so special.”
Cllr Rani follows Cllr Alpha Bird Collins as Mayor. The outgoing Mayor thanked residents, community organisations and volunteers for their support during the past year and wished the new Mayor every success in the role.
