People who live or work in Potters Bar invited to have their say on proposals for a Potters Bar parish council

People who live or work in Potters Bar are being invited to have their say on the next stage of a Community Governance Review (CGR), which is considering whether a parish council should be established for the town.

Following an initial consultation earlier this year, Hertsmere Borough Council has published a set of draft proposals setting out how a parish council could operate, including the proposed number of parish councillors and how the area could be divided into wards.

The second stage of consultation opens Wednesday 1 July and closes at midnight on Sunday 23 August 2026.

The first stage of the review ran from 21 April to 8 June 2026 and received 604 responses. Of those who took part, 72 per cent supported the establishment of a parish council. All responses have been anonymised and published on the council’s website.

The feedback received has helped shape the draft proposals now being consulted on before a final decision is made by the council in September.

Councillor Christian Gray, Portfolio Holder for Communities, Neighbourhoods, Enforcement, Economic Development and Transformation said:

“We would encourage everyone who lives or works in Potters Bar to take a few minutes to look at the draft proposals and let us know what they think. This is an important opportunity for local people to help shape the future of local governance in Potters Bar before any final decision is made.”

Residents and businesses can view the proposals and complete the online questionnaire by visiting www.hertsmere.gov.uk/CGR or by scanning the QR code displayed on consultation materials.

There will be two in person events where people can find out more and raise any questions:

Monday 13 July: 12:30 – 14:30

Wednesday 19 August: 18:30 – 20:30

These events will be held at the Wyllyots Theatre, Wyllyots Place, Darkes Lane, Potters Bar, Herts EN6 2HZ.

Anyone who would prefer to respond by phone or request a paper questionnaire can contact the council’s Electoral Services Team on 020 8207 7481 or email elections@hertsmere.gov.uk.

The deadline for responses is midnight on Sunday 23 August 2026.
