History of the Museum
The museum opened in October 2020. Despite its small size, the museum holds a considerable archive of documents, photographs, pictures and memorabilia relating to Radlett and the surrounding areas, including Aldenham and Letchmore Heath. The museum also has an archive of oral history recordings with local residents.
Collections and Exhibitions
Radlett and District Museum has a permanent display but also presents themed exhibitions. These can include subjects such as Radlett at War, Transport, Religious establishments and Schools. Since February 2026, the main display holds the exhibition "Radlett and The Railway".
Off-site exhibitions are also held occasionally. Currently, the "Radlett's Streets" exhibition is on in the Apthorp Gallery, upstairs in the Radlett Centre.

Volunteering
The museum is run entirely by volunteers and wouldn’t be here if it wasn’t for members of our community who give their time freely.
They always need more volunteers so if you have a few hours a month/week or occasionally to spare, they would love your help. The volunteer team is a friendly and welcoming bunch. There is a surprising variety of activities on offer, so whatever your skills or personality, there is something for everyone volunteering at one of our museums:
- Front of house welcoming visitors to the museum
- Cataloguing objects to helping with displays
- Researching the past by delving into the archives to find the hidden stories
- Creating and updating their online content
- Helping to research, design and curate temporary exhibitions
- Facilitating school visits and helping families get the most out of the museum and events
- Helping to research or run the Memories Afternoon within the local community
Their marvellous volunteers bring the Radlett district's local history to life. We are so proud of what they have achieved.
