Ash dieback disease (Chalara fraxinea)

Chalara dieback of ash is a serious disease of ash trees caused by a fungus called Chalara fraxinea. The disease causes leaf loss and crown dieback in affected trees, and usually leads to tree death.

The Forestry Commission is dealing with all calls about this disease. Contact their helpline on 08459 335577 or visit the Forestry Commission web pages on the dieback disease.

If you have an ash tree which you suspect is infected with Chalara dieback, then please do not put any cuttings in your green bin. Instead use your black bins to help stop the spread of the disease. This follows advice issued by DEFRA (the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs) as the infection is spread by spores from fruit bodies on leaf litter.

Trees in parks and on amenity greens

Our trees are inspected regularly, but if you would like to report a problem please contact us via parks@hertsmere.gov.uk

Please see the Parks department web pages to find out more about trees in the Borough's parks and open spaces.
