Statement of Community Involvement

Hertsmere Borough Council adopted a new Statement of Community Involvement (SCI) after being considered and approved by Full Council on 26^th November 2025. Details of the Council’s decision-taking can be found as follows:

The new SCI supersedes the previous version, which was adopted in July 2021.

The SCI is a legal document which sets out:

How the planning system works in England
How the Council will prepare and consult on planning policies
How the Council will consult in planning applications
How the public of Hertsmere can get involved in the planning process.

Public consultation took place between 16 June and 28 July 2025. This consultation resulted in a high number of responses. Many of these responses focused on the need for the SCI to be written in plain English. As a result, the document was reviewed and the language updated to make it more accessible.
