Council Tax Banding

Last Modified October 01, 2021

Every dwelling is billed for council tax, whether it is a house, bungalow, flat, maisonette, mobile home or house boat, and whether it is owned or rented.

Each property is allocated into one of eight bands, A to H. Properties in band D will pay the basic charge and properties in other bands will be charged proportionately.

What band am I in?

The amount of your council tax bill will depend on the band your property has been placed in by the District Valuer. This band is based on the value of your home on 1 April 1991, when the valuations were carried out.

BANDVALUE
A

Less than £40,000

B

If you appeal against the banding of your property, you must still keep paying us the amount shown on your original bill until your appeal has been dealt with. If you don't we will take action to recover any arrears that build up. If your appeal is successful, we will refund you any overpayment you have made.
