Drivers across Hertsmere can now plug in and power up more easily, thanks to a major rollout of electric vehicle (EV) charging points by Hertsmere Borough Council.
The first phase of the scheme has seen brand-new charging points installed at nine key sites across the borough – including Borehamwood, Bushey, and Potters Bar – giving residents and visitors a faster, more convenient way to top up on the go.
In total, the programme will deliver at least 74 charging points within the council’s car parks and leisure centres, marking a significant step forward in Hertsmere Borough Council’s commitment to a cleaner and greener Hertsmere.
There are a number of different ways to pay for your electricity, including: contactless/smartphone, Pay As You Go, an RFID card or through an app such as E.ON Drive.
Councillor Paul Richards, Portfolio Holder for Environmental Sustainability and Net Zero and Public Health, said: “Electric vehicles are the future – and demand is growing fast. By investing in modern, reliable charging infrastructure, we’re making it easier for residents to choose cleaner travel and helping to drive Hertsmere towards a more sustainable future.
“They’re very straightforward to use and provide an innovative charging solution for those without access to off-street parking. It is important to us that we look at as many different ways as possible to expand the coverage of our charging network. Future-proofing our charging network also gives residents who might be thinking about switching to electric vehicles the confidence to know that, if they do switch, there are plenty of charging points available to them."
The new chargers cost 45p per kilowatt hour for AC charging and 55p for DC charging, offering a straightforward, pay-as-you-go service.
Dev Chana, Managing Director for E.ON Drive Infrastructure UK, said: “We’re proud to be working with Hertsmere Borough Council to make driving electric more accessible for everyone. Reliable and convenient charging infrastructure is key to giving people the confidence to make the switch to cleaner transport. By delivering these new charging points across key community locations, we’re helping to build a network that supports drivers transition to electric vehicles. In addition, we are excited to introduce a new site opening offer of 34p per kWh for AC charging and 39p per kWh for DC charging. You can redeem this offer by simply tapping your card on the payment terminal. No apps, no fuss!”
This investment underlines Hertsmere’s commitment to building a borough that is fit for the future: reducing emissions, supporting residents, and keeping Hertsmere moving.
