Hertsmere By-Election May 2026

Following the resignation of Councillor Meenal Sachdev, there will be a by-election held in Hertsmere on Thursday 7 May 2026. This election will be to duly elect a member to Hertsmere Borough Council within the Bentley Heath & the Royds Ward.

Important information for Electors

You must be on the electoral register, within the eligible electoral area, in order to vote. If you've recently moved, it's important that you register at your new address. Voters are required to show Photo ID when voting at a polling station. Please see our Voter ID page for more information.

Important Information for Candidates and Agents

If you are interested in standing for election in the Bentley Heath & the Royd Ward, you must complete a nominations pack.

Completed nomination papers can be submitted from publication of the Notice of Election and must be received by no later than 4pm on Thursday 9 April.

Nomination papers must be delivered by hand to: the Returning Officer, Civic Office, Elstree Way, Borehamwood, Herts, WD6 1WA. Candidates are encouraged to submit their nomination papers for checking as early as possible so that there is time to correct any mistakes.

Once confirmed a candidate, you may request a copy of the electoral register and absent voters list for the Bentley Heath & the Royds Ward. To request a copy, you must complete the forms below and return them to the Returning Officer.
