New visible and reassuring presence coming soon to our communities

Last Modified February 15, 2024

A new Community Enforcement Team will be deployed across the borough from the early summer to engage with residents and tackle community issues, such as anti-social behaviour and enviro-crime.

Our Cabinet agreed last Wednesday (7 February) to establish a new enforcement service, redirecting funds that we had previously made available to Police for recruitment of Police Community Support Officers.

Cllr Christian Gray, Portfolio Holder for Communities, Neighbourhoods, Enforcement, Economic Development and Transformation, said: “We have established a dedicated community enforcement team for our borough to put us in direct control of our communities’ needs.

“The team will contend with anti-social behaviour, environmental breaches and other problems that the police do not have the resources to tackle.

“We are confident this will help us build a safer, stronger and more cohesive community.”

The team will provide a visible community presence and respond to issues including but not limited to anti-social behaviour, fly-tipping and other waste control issues, public drinking, dog fouling, graffiti, busking, unlicensed street sales, overflowing bins (commercial, household, public) broken street furniture, and any other issues in the public realm that may be of concern to our residents.
