'Cost of living' survey for businesses

Last Modified February 22, 2023

Anyone who runs or manages a business in Hertsmere is being asked to give their thoughts on how the cost of living crisis has affected them.

We've published an online survey which seeks to assess how rising energy costs and inflationary pressures are affecting the local economy. The responses will inform our work and how we prioritise the implementation of our economic development strategy going forward. In addition, views are being sought on how we can look at ways to improve the borough's town centres.

At the end of last year, we published a strategy, entitled Hertsmere Works, which set out aspirations and ambitions for the economic wellbeing of the borough until 2027. We identified a number of objectives to undertake over the next four years in order to support and champion the area's existing businesses and help them through the latest economic crisis.

Cllr Caroline Clapper, Portfolio Holder for Economic Development and Property, said: "We're asking anyone who runs or owns a business, no matter how large or small, to take 10 minutes of their time to give their views on how the current cost of living crisis is affecting the way they operate.

"What are the main challenges for you? Are you having difficulties recruiting or retaining staff? How can we better support you during these difficult times? These are all important questions that as a council with a clear vision for 'smart' economic growth that puts our communities and places first, we need your help to answer.

"We want to ensure that our economy and the borough not only recovers from the current economic crisis, but builds on the challenges and opportunities it faces, and comes out stronger and more adaptable than ever before.

"Please do complete our survey today and help us identify how we can help you better."

Responses to the survey are invited before Wednesday 15 March. All responses will be treated confidentially and will be used for council purposes only. Company information will not be shared with any third party.
